Permission to film

Nowadays people are more sensitive about being filmed without permission. The rules governing the filming of children and patients in a hospital are strict and need to be addressed before a filming visit takes place.

Gaining permission is in our experience generally easy. Parents need to give written permission for their children to be filmed. Many schools have these permissions on file and exclude the few who have not signed up for the period of the shoot.

We have filmed in many restricted areas including schools, hospitals, police stations and military establishments. In our experience most people will agree when asked directly. If they don’t, it is no problem and we simply avoid them.

Long shots are generally accepted as OK when individuals are not picked out and we can film from the back of a classroom, for example, so faces are not shown. One of our recent commissions involved filming in a secure mental health hospital where faces were pixelated beyond recognition to protect privacy.

You can download a generic form for permission which you can customise with your own logo and names if you wish.
