Every wondered how superman flies through the air? Sadly it’s not super human powers but an actor in tights lying on a blue or green stool in front of a blue or green screen with his arm stretched out in flying mode.

By “keying” out the blue or green the background is removed and another substituted. So, for superman the screen becomes the sky. We just have to make sure they’re not wearing the masked colour or that area will appear as a hole.

The technique can be very effective for taking a presenter to lots of locations or for providing an interesting background if one isn’t available.
